One Market

My husband and I went to see an interview with food writer, Molly O’Neill, in San Francisco and decided to have a nice lunch afterward.   One Market Restaurant was on our way to catch the ferry back home so we decided to stop in.  It had been years since we had been there, and we had both forgotten how much we like their food. 

I started with a crab and Japanese pear salad with yogurt.  It was just fantastic – full of crabmeat and just enough yogurt to hold it together.  My husband started with an appetizer of smoked trout over a rice cake with a poached egg on top and bacon and shallots around the outside of the dish.  I had a bite, and it was delicious!  The egg really pulled the dish together. 

My main course was ravioli of rabbit and mustard greens served in a rich, frothy stock.  The raviolis were very tasty – with nutmeg and a citrus-flavored herb such as lemon verbena.  My husband had one of their fantastic hamburgers with bleu cheese.  It was served with huge crispy potato wedges and a nice coleslaw on the side. 

Then we had a most wonderful creation for dessert – house-made coconut ice cream with toasted coconut, chocolate-covered toasted almonds and dark fudge sauce with chantilly on top.   This dessert was their special for today but maybe they will add it to their menu – it was seriously good!

We truly enjoyed the meal, but we were both thankful that we had a walk uphill from the ferry station to get back to our home!
