Canteen Restaurant

My husband and I recently went with our friends, Norm and Kate, to Canteen.  The food was amazing, thanks to efforts of award-winning chef, Dennis Leary.

Among the 4 of us, we tried every dish on their menu that evening (each course had 4 choices so we each chose something different).  For appetizers, we had English pea soup, braised squid, a salad of endive, caramelized pear and carmody cheese, and rabbit braised in red wine with a porcini puree.  For our main course, we had wild mushroom tart, bluenose bass, pork shoulder confit with mashed apples, kale and a mustard sauce, and poussin with quince glaze and buckwheat polenta.  For dessert, we enjoyed grapefruit vacherin with yogurt sorbet, poppyseed cake with rhubarb jam, crepe au chocolat with chicory sauce, and vanilla soufle.

Now, if you are looking for atmosphere, this might not be the place!  Canteen looks like a small diner and only seats about 20 people. It is located inside the Commodore Hotel.   Canteen serves breakfast daily, brunch on the weekends, lunch and dinner (Wednesdays through Saturdays).
